Briefs: District 4 staff changes
Students at Lincoln School and Indian Trail Junior High School in Addison will see two new faces this fall. Daniel Johnson will become the new principal for Lincoln School, joining Addison Elementary District 4 after serving as principal in Des Plaines School District 62. Before that, he spent 12 years in Riverside as assistant principal and band director. At Indian Trail, John Bunnell will serve as a dean. For the past eight years, Bunnell has served as a school social worker at an alternative high school in Palatine.
Ex-Argonne worker sentenced
A 43-year-old Plainfield man was sentenced to two years' drug-offender probation and ordered to spend 90 days in jail if he fails with his sobriety after he admitted stealing about $9,800 worth of metal equipment while working at Argonne National Laboratory near Darien. Jay W. Goatley was a longtime employee of the laboratory when arrested late last year on the felony theft charges. He pleaded guilty last month. DuPage Circuit Judge Robert Anderson sentenced Goatley on Monday.
Lombard Main Street closures
Starting Friday, Main Street in Lombard will close at Wilson Street so workers can replace a water main and add new valves in the entire intersection. As part of this work, water shutdowns are scheduled for the area Friday and Saturday; Residents will receive notice cards on their doors 24 hours prior. The intersection is scheduled to reopen July 28, weather permitting. While the intersection is shut, a detour will be posted. Southbound traffic will take Madison Street west to Finley Road, south to Edward Street and east to Main Street. Northbound traffic will take Edward west to Finley, north to Madison and east to Main.
West Chicago students take honors
Two seniors from Community High School in West Chicago last month placed in the Future Business Leaders of America National Competition in Atlanta. All students who placed first or second in their event at their state competitions were eligible to compete at the national level. Mike Wall and Paul Warkins, both of West Chicago, placed fourth in entrepreneurship. The competition included a collaborative written test and a presentation. Other West Chicago students participating in the conference, which drew 7,400 students from around the country, were Diana Martinez in business communications and John Kinsella in computer applications.
