Fire causes $100,000 damage to Oakbrook Terrace restaurant

The Redstone American Grill in Oakbrook Terrace is expected to remain closed Sunday after a fire damaged the roof of the building over the weekend.

Firefighters arrived at the restaurant, located at the intersection of Butterfield Road and 22nd Street, at about 11 p.m. Friday and saw smoke rising from the roof of the building.

Officials with the York Center Fire Protection District said it appeared that one of the building's air-conditioning units malfunctioned and started to overheat. The heat then caused roofing material around the unit to catch fire.

The restaurant, which was open at the time the fire started, had to be evacuated, officials said. No injuries were reported.

Fire officials said the blaze, which was brought under control in about 30 minutes, was contained to the roof and caused about $100,000 in damages to the building.

Repairs will need to be made to the building before it can reopen, officials said.

Michael Bouchard, general manager of the restaurant, said he will not know until at least Monday when the restaurant will be reopened.
