Addison Park District fixing storm-damaged golf dome
After a heavy storm lifted and deflated Addison Park District's Links & Tees Golf dome earlier this month, park district officials now are working to get it fixed by December.
On Thursday, the park board approved a $689,700 bid from The Farley Group to repair the dome.
Executive Director Mark McKinnon said the park district is collaborating with its insurance company, Park District Risk Management Association, to determine how much of the bill it must pay.
Other dome fixtures damaged during the storm include some lights and the service desk, which the district and insurance company are also collaborating on fixing.
In addition, McKinnon said park officials are considering adding insulation to the dome while the repairs are being completed.
The Farley Group said the insulation work would cost $72,500 and McKinnon said the energy savings would equal $40,000 to $50,000 per year. This would not be covered by insurance, however, and officials would have to dip into the district's reserve fund to pay for it.
"It takes a third-grader to do the math and see that it would be a smart move in the long haul, but we need to see if we have the reserve funds," McKinnon said.
The board will make a decision about adding insulation this month, McKinnon said, tentatively during a meeting on Sept. 10.
