BG has right connection for Farrell's debut

After a 22-10 victory in the first game of his Buffalo Grove football coaching career, Jim Farrell said he felt the like the weight of the world had been lifted from his shoulders.

Farrell's senior quarterback, John Paul Kulick, sure gave the host Bison a big lift.

The 5-foot-10 senior, a Colts fans who wears No. 19 for Johnny Unitas, looked like the former Baltimore Hall of Fame QB as he tossed 3 touchdown passes to 6-foot-4 split end Mike Cornely.

"I like the Indianapolis Colts and Peyton Manning, so my dad told me about Johhny Unitas, and I read about him," said Kulick, who hooked up with Cornely for TDs of 35, 21 and 18 yards. "I even got my hair cut like him."

Cornely made some nice cuts to the football as Kulick completed 6 passes to the junior for 148 yards.

Overall, Kulick was 11 of 15 for 226 yards and rushed for 57 yards while getting solid line protection from Sam Krupiarz, Jamie Zabrin, Ryan Ellingsen, Brian Oglesbee, Alex Ward, Kevin Alvarez, Alan Baxter and John Pischak.

"The kids really battled adversity with penalties and setbacks, and made the plays when they had to," Farrell said. "Obviously, defensively, we had a lot of aggressive kids."

"That 86 (Cornely) had a great game, he really hurt us," said Mundelein first-year coach Bob Stone. "Their quarterback threw some great balls. And they have other skilled position players who hurt you (Josh Hampton rushed for 69 yards)."

Tyler Adams scored on a 1-yard run, and Mike O'Donoghue booted a 25 yard field goal for Mundelein's scoring.

"I thought our running backs (Mike Matranga and Kenny Jennigan) had good games," Stone said. "We have five juniors on our offensive line. I though they grew up in that first half."
