Teachers now paid too much
There was a time, a long while ago, when I championed the Teacher's cause. Theirs is a very important job and they were highly underpaid. They no longer are underpaid and the more they are paid, the worse the end results are.
The teaching profession today is in shambles. I recommend reading the book "The Conspiracy of Ignorance" by Martin L. Gross to see how bad it is. The book begins with the results of an international math contest for eighth-graders. Some 24,000 13-year-olds from America, South Korea, the United Kingdom, Spain, Ireland and Canada participated.
Before the test started, they were asked if they were good at math, yes or no. Three-fourths of the American students replied yes to that question. Only one fourth of the South Koreans answered yes. However, the Americans were last in the math contest while the South Koreans were first.
The teachers union decided to strike at School District 158. They had been offered an exorbitant contract, but they were not satisfied. We are not getting our money's worth now.
It is time to be rid of the teacher's union. Their strong-arm tactics should not be allowed to prevail. They should not be allowed to strike.
As a retired senior citizen, I am concerned because I cannot keep up with the increased taxes that result from the demands of the teachers union.
