Kirk put together relief effort

In the wake of Hurricane Gustav, Congressman Mark Kirk proved why he's one of the best members of Congress and a worthy representative of our wonderful communities. Instead of hanging out at the Republican National Convention and going to parties, Congressman Kirk canceled his plans and came home to organize relief for hurricane victims.

Dozens of 10th District volunteers answered Congressman Kirk's call to donate bottled water, medical supplies and other essentials for the hurricane-ravaged areas. Every one of them probably had things to do that day, and other uses for their money, but they came together and gave of themselves to help fellow Americans in trouble.

I want to thank Mark Kirk for putting the relief effort together. Volunteerism and eagerness to help those in need are what make this country great. Thank you, Congressman Kirk, for bringing out the best in all of us.
