Special meeting on casinos

The Des Plaines City Council will hold a special meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, to discuss efforts to obtain the 10th casino license. Applications must be filed with the Illinois Gaming Board by Tuesday, Oct. 14. The city has had an agreement since 2002 with Neil G. Bluhm, president of JMB Realty Corp., and Walton Street Capital to apply for the license, which originally was awarded to a site in Rosemont but later revoked after questions were raised about investors in the project. Recently, Robert Kozonis, owner of the O'Hare Lake Office Park, 2200-2400 E. Devon Ave., said he's putting together a proposal, but city officials have not yet received a formal bid from him. Des Plaines can only submit one bid; a number of other towns, including Rosemont, also plan to bid.
