Kirk up in campaign money race
U.S. Rep. Mark Kirk continues to outpace Democrat Dan Seals in the money race as the two head into the final month of campaigning in the Northern suburbs.
Kirk's campaign reports bringing in more than $850,000 in contributions since late June, meaning the Highland Park Republican would have raised more than $4.6 million this year.
Seals, though, doesn't appear to be too far behind.
The Wilmette challenger took in more than $700,000 since late June, which is a personal record according to his campaign. Seals raised nearly $3 million this year.
Federal campaign disclosure reports will not be made public until Oct. 15, but the candidates recently made their general fundraising figures public.
It remains unclear how much cash each campaign has left to run ads, pay staff and send out mailers in the final weeks of campaigning in the 10th District, which includes Northwest Cook County and central portions of Lake County.
That information will be available in the federal reports.
Seals reported having $1.2 million on hand at the end of June, according to the last available disclosure reports. He raised $577,176 between April and late June.
Kirk had about $2.8 million on hand at the same time after raising nearly $900,000 between April and June.
