Briefs: New Illinois Bar Foundation president

Attorney Vincent Cornelius recently became president of the Illinois Bar Foundation, which is the charitable arm of the Illinois State Bar Association. Cornelius of Naperville will serve a two-year term as the foundation's first black president. He is a nearly 20-year attorney who began his career in 1989 as an assistant DuPage County state's attorney. He now is in private practice, with offices in Wheaton and Joliet. King to speak at NCC

Martin Luther King III, son of the legendary civil rights leader, will be the keynote speaker for Anti-Hate Week activities at Naperville's North Central College. His free lecture, open to the public, is at 7 p.m. Oct. 29 in the Wentz Concert Hall and Fine Arts Center at 171 E. Chicago Ave. King will discuss his father's goals and achievements and how they relate to his own mission. ConAgra packing food

More than 80 employees of ConAgra Foods will volunteer their time Tuesday, Oct. 21, and Wednesday, Oct. 22, to pack and distribute 600 gift bags with food for children in need at the Loaves and Fishes Community Pantry, 556 West Fifth Ave., Naperville. Thousands of pounds of food will be packed at ConAgra's Naperville headquarters on Oct. 21 and then be distributed from 9 a.m. until noon Oct. 22.

Turf information session

Glenbard High School District 87 will host an information session regarding the installation of synthetic turf at Glenbard West High School, which would be an effort to maximize field space. The session will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21, at Glenbard West High School, at 670 Crescent Blvd., about the effort to increase outdoor instructional space for students.

Annual Ladies' Night Sale

St. Peter the Apostle will host its Annual Ladies' Night Sale from 7 to 10 p.m. Thursday at the school hall, 500 N. Cherry Street in Itasca. Merchandise for sale will include cosmetics, jewelry, clothing and home decorating and cooking products. Food and cocktails also will be available, and a $5 donation will be taken at the door. Electricians help the homeless

The Illinois Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 701 raised $10,701 for the Midwest Shelter for Homeless Vets in Wheaton during a recent motorcycle poker run that started in Warrenville.

Wheaton police make burglary arrest

Two Warrenville men were arrested in connection with three car burglaries that happened this month in Wheaton. Mario A. Coix, 18, of 29W401 Crabtree Lane, and David A. Sosa, 18, of 29W770 Hurlingham, each have been charged with three counts of criminal trespass to a motor vehicle and three counts of theft. Wheaton police officers stopped both men about 1 a.m. Oct. 8 for suspicion of speeding in a 2003 Saturn near Adare and Gresham Circle. During the traffic stop, police said they developed probable cause to arrest the men in connection with three motor vehicles reported broken into earlier that evening. Coix and Sosa posted bond and were released.
