Shattuck best pick in 49th House race

Running against a 10-year incumbent is not an easy task, but Rachel Shattuck, showing strong leadership skills, stepped up to run for Illinois House of Representatives in the 49th District.

Many of us may not be satisfied with our leaders, but few take the actions necessary to raise money, organize a campaign and motivate people to vote. Rachel has passionately done this because she believes that government should stand for "we the people."

Even though our state faces huge debts, people are losing their jobs, homeowners are experiencing foreclosures as well as heavy property taxes; the current representative has not done anything to solve these problems for the people in the 49th District.

Rachel is concerned about people. Her priorities are health care, the environment, schools and jobs. She knows that people must have quality of life in order for them to be efficient workers. We have strong corporations in our country because of an educated, healthy work force that is now in jeopardy of losing health care, housing and education that historically have contributed to our country being a great nation.

Rachel's experiences include working for the Peace Corps, training advocates to meet with their elected officials, working on national campaigns, and serving on a women's empowerment development project in South Africa. These experiences have taught her many lessons and have made her well equipped to work toward solving the problems of the people in the 49th District.
