Beaubien wins re-election in House Dist. 52

Republican state Rep. Mark Beaubien was victorious Tuesday over his Democratic opponent Richard Garling. With all 97 precincts in Lake, Cook and McHenry counties counted, unofficial totals showed Beaubien with 34,184 votes to Garling's 20,913. The vote totals do not include provisional and late-arriving absentee ballots. Beaubien, 65, of Barrington, said a balanced budget, full funding of pensions and continued opposition to additional financial burden on Illinois businesses topped his list of issued during the campaign. He said he believes he's been meeting the needs of 52nd District residents. Garling, 52, an Island Lake trustee, said job creation, transportation infrastructure and education were among his concerns. The 52nd District includes west and southwest Lake County from Fox Lake, Island Lake and Wauconda south to the Barrington area; and Crystal Lake, Cary and Fox River Grove in McHenry County.
