Briefs: Des Plaines bank robbed

An undisclosed amount of money was stolen in a robbery of a Des Plaines bank Thursday. According to police, a white male, 45 to 50 years of age, approximately 5-foot-6 in height, wearing blue jeans, a dark colored jacket, sun glasses and a camouflage cap walked into the Citicorp office at 1525 Ellinwood Ave. about 2:26 p.m. and showed the teller a note indicating he was robbing the bank. The teller handed over monies in the cash drawer and the offender walked out of the bank and fled the area. No weapon was displayed during the incident. Des Plaines police and the FBI are investigating, using evidence recovered from the bank along with videotaped footage of the robbery.

Palatine gas station robbed

A man armed with a handgun robbed a Clark gas station clerk at 5 W. Palatine Road around 8:35 p.m. Wednesday and stole approximately $2,200, police said. The robber ordered the male clerk to open the cash drawer, reached in, grabbed money and ran out of the station. He was wearing a nylon stocking mask and gloves, a tan Carhartt construction-type jacket and was described in his 40s with brown hair and a stocky build.

Take the Walk Sunday

Take the Walk, a one-mile walk to raise money to build clean-water wells in Africa, takes place starting at 3:45 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16, in front of the Schaumburg Township District Library. There is no preregistration, no fees and no expectation of donations or pledges. Rather, for everyone who shows up, the pop group Hanson will donate $1 toward the effort. Library holds open house

The Prospect Heights Public Library will hold an open house from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16, to showcase a new look and improvements that have been made. The Ron Mills Trio will provide musical entertainment and refreshments will be served. The library is at 12 N. Elm St.

Craft fair, turkey exhibit today

A craft fair featuring handmade items from 30 local crafters takes place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at the Hanover Township Senior Center, 240 S. Rt. 59, Bartlett. There will also be a bake sale, and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. there will a visit from Santa and an exhibit of live turkeys from a Barrington farm for children to see and feed. Admission is free.

Long Grove holds wine tasting

Long Grove will hold a wine tasting event from noon to 5 p.m. today as a preview to the holiday season. The event will include live entertainment, demonstrations and displays throughout the downtown. Those who visit can purchase souvenir wine glasses for $10. Mangels of Long Grove will host a Thanksgiving and Christmas home decorating seminar from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Call (847) 634-3731 for more information.
