Student award winners

Three West Chicago High School students earned their Stateman's Award pin this month at the SkillsUSA Fall Leadership Conference in Bolingbrook. SkillsUSA is a national nonprofit organization serving teachers and high school and college students preparing for careers in trade, technical and skilled service occupations. Award winners are: Lauran Hon of Carol Stream and Mayuri Parmar and Emily Tulipano, both of West Chicago. Tulipano also received a first-place ribbon with a team effort for opening and closing ceremonies. SkillsUSA is currently organizing a food drive at the high school in December. Donated items will be delivered to a food pantry.

Scholarship raffle slated

The Education Foundation of Community High School District 94 in West Chicago is holding a $10,000 scholarship raffle through Dec. 15. The foundation is partnering with student clubs to help fund club activities, with a portion of each $25 ticket going to the group represented by the student selling the ticket. Student clubs are selling tickets at home football and basketball games and through the district's Web site at d94.org, by clicking "Webstore." There will be a maximum of 1,000 tickets sold and an educational scholarship in the maximum amount of $10,000 will be awarded to the winner. Park scholarships increase

Naperville Park District is anticipating an increase in residents applying for its scholarship program. The program offers Naperville residents in economic need a reduction in fees of 50 percent to 100 percent for programs and individual Centennial Beach memberships. Income eligibility is based on guidelines issued by the U.S. Department of Agriculture for free and reduced fee lunch programs. Each eligible family member may apply for the fee waiver for one program per program season with a maximum $100 value. For details, call (630) 848-5000.

Pihos hosts town hall

State Rep. Sandra Pihos will hold a developmental disabilities town hall meeting to discuss key issues from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Dec. 8 at the Wheaton Community Center Auditorium, 1777 S. Blanchard St., Wheaton. The Illinois Council on Developmental Disabilities panel will discuss the Illinois Blueprint, community-based supports, increased services, elimination of the state's waiting list, beneficial recommendations and ideas for improving the system.
