Prospect handles rugged schedule

An out-of-town weekend tournament for a girls bowling team can sometimes equate to a sluggish start at a conference meet the following Monday.

Prospect was able to overcome that in their match versus Hersey on Monday night in Rolling Meadows.

The Knights, who had participated in a tournament in Rock Island just two days ago, defeated Mid-Suburban League rival Hersey 9-0, tallying 2,645 pins to the Huskies 2,181.

Conant, Rolling Meadows, Hoffman Estates, Schaumburg, and Elk Grove were the other MSL winners.

"We had a slow start - we didn't really find our rhythm until the sixth or seventh frame of the second game," said Prospect coach Greg Troyer. "We shot very well in the second half of tonight's match. The girls stepped up."

Senior Hannah Wrenn, who finished third individually at last season's MSL championship, led the Knights with a high series of 568, while Hersey's Carina Balin had the high game with 219.

"Mentally, you need time to recover from Saturday's games," said Troyer. "And some physical fatigue sets in as well."

The Knights improved to 18-0 in points as the MSL played their second round of games for the season and Schaumburg, last year's state championship runner up, is also 18-0.

Marilyn Gawlik, the individual state champion in 2007, led the Saxons with a 608 series (high-game 224) in their 438-pin victory over Buffalo Grove.

Elk Grove's Caerlina Williams boasted the high game (242) and high series (657) of the night in the Grens 7-2 victory over Palatine.

Mandy Hoglund of Hoffman Estates and Wheeling's Ashley Lemke each rolled a 228 game in the Hawks' 9-0 win over the Wildcats.

Ashley Landowski of Fremd bowled a 217 game and 612 series, but the strong effort couldn't prevent a 48-pin loss to Conant (7-2 in points).

Barrington, in its first season in the league, fell 9-0 to Rolling Meadows but Andrea Grzeslo did all she could with a 526 series.

Belinda Meyer led the Mustangs with a high game of 203.
