16-year-old arrested at Glenbard West High School

A 16-year-old boy from Glendale Heights was arrested Friday and charged with disorderly conduct and unlawful use of a weapon after bringing an unloaded BB gun to Glenbard West High School.

According to Glen Ellyn police, a teacher found the boy in a classroom about 11 a.m., pulling the trigger on what appeared to be a gun. The teacher confronted the student and discovered the unloaded BB gun.

A police liaison officer at the school arrested the boy. The student was taken to the Glen Ellyn Police Department, where charges were filed. He was released to his parents.

According to information posted on the school Web site, no one was ever in danger, but the school administration is "treating this incident very seriously."

"Possession, sale, use or transfer of any firearm, knife, 'look alike' or any other object which may be reasonably considered to be a weapon is clearly outlined as prohibited student conduct," a Web site statement from Principal Jane Thorsen read. "Any student who brings such materials to school will be subject to strict disciplinary measures."

Neither police nor school officials were available for further comment.
