Lombard fire causes $40,000 in damage

A fire that started in the kitchen of a Lombard apartment caused about $40,000 in damage Friday, officials said.

Batallion Chief Ron Rakosnik of the Lombard Fire Department said the fire occurred about 12:04 p.m. in a garden apartment in a three-unit building at 519 W. Pleasant St.

A mother and daughter were home at the time. No one was injured, according to Rakosnik.

It is believed the fire began on top of the stove, when no one was in the kitchen.

The residents made arrangements to stay with family. No one was home in the other units at the time. There was no serious damage to the other units.
