Kavanaugh holds on as Batavia Twp. assessor

Batavia Township Assessor Tammy Kavanaugh, an independent, held off a challenge from Republican Helen Sue Krol Tuesday. Kavanaugh had 2,651 votes, and Krol 1,985, according to unofficial results from the Aurora Election Commission and Kane County. Kavanaugh, who has served since 1998, was criticized by the Batavia Township Republican Organization for sending out letters last week with updated property assessment reports to the 13,000-plus property owners in the township. The letters discussed how declines in market values in 2007 and 2008 would likely lead to decreases in assessed valuations in 2009.
