Retired Oakbrook Terrace cop wins mayor's race
Retired police officer Tony Ragucci will replace Tom Mazaika as the new mayor of Oakbrook Terrace.
With all precincts reporting, unofficial totals showed Ragucci with 259 votes to 230 votes for Alderman James Bojan.
Ragucci, who recently retired after 18 years as an Oakbrook Terrace police officer and serves on the city's police pension board, said he hoped to be a more hands-on mayor than his predecessor.
His goals include examining the city's expenses to ensure the municipality is living within its means, reviewing the city's comprehensive plan for development to see whether it needs adjusting due to the economy and opening lines of communications with Oakbrook Terrace businesses.
Bojan, who's finishing his second term as alderman, had run for mayor so he could continue with the latest council's efforts. He had aimed to ensure expenses were kept down and services maintained, to remedy the water system's drain on the budget and to continue the city's efforts to support local businesses, including paying for the chamber's business retention program.
In the race for Ward 3 Alderman, Ahmed Sayyed won the seat with 80 votes to 53 votes cast for Frank Di Iorio.
