Batavia Siemens factory razed

The demolition of the old Siemens Automation factory at McKee Street and Van Nortwick Avenue in Batavia is almost complete.

Workers on Friday were knocking down and scraping away debris from the well-known blue front entrance wall.

They were also salvaging usable brick from the site, which contained 220,000 square feet of buildings.

The factory, formerly known as Furnas Electric, closed three years ago after more than 60 years of operating in Batavia.

At one time, more than 500 people worked there.

The city hopes the site will be redeveloped with homes, offices and shops.
