Community conversation:

The public is invited to learn about regional plans for the future from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, April 22 at an event hosted by the Lake County Stormwater Management Commission, Lake County Forest Preserve District and the Upper Des Plaines River Ecosystem Partnership. This "community conversation" allows residents to address challenges of increased congestion and pollution, loss of public lands and a growing disparity of wealth. The event is at the Ryerson Woods Welcome Center on Riverwoods Road between Half Day and Deerfield roads. RSVP to ycapriccioso@cmap.illinois.gov.

International business forum:

U.S. Reps. Melissa Bean and Mark Kirk will be the keynote speakers at the International Trade Business Forum on Monday, April 27, at the University Center of Lake County, 1200 University Drive, Grayslake. Companies interested in exporting for the first time and expanding into new markets are invited to attend. Speakers from the U.S. Commercial Service, the Export-Import Bank of the United States, and Small Business Administration will discuss identifying target markets and business partners, trade finance, export credit insurance, and exporting working capital loans. Also, X-Cel X-Ray Corporation of Crystal Lake, Arbortech Corporation of Johnsburg, Rust-Oleum Corporation of Vernon Hills and Rauland-Borg Corporation of Mt. Student wins national prize:

Stevenson High School sophomore Greg Gault has been named one of the Scholastic publishing company's READ 180 All-Stars for improving his reading and academic skills, the company announced Monday. The honor comes with a $1,200 prize he can spend on his education. Gault, 15, was one of nine students to receive the national award.

Liberty Town Productions hosts its first Liberty town hall meeting at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 22, at Caribou Coffee, Milwaukee Avenue just north of Lake Street in Libertyville. This brainstorming meeting will focus on the question: How does greater Libertyville want to be entertained? All ages are welcome. Pet pantry gets donation:

More than 12,000 pounds of dry and canned pet food was donated last week to a Mundelein food pantry for animals. The items were given to the Pooch Pantry at the B.C. Dog Training Club by the WellPet Foundation and K9Cuisine.com. Open Saturday mornings at 920 Turret Court, the pantry offers free dog or cat food to pet owners. Visits are allowed twice a month.
