Government doesn't need to kick down our doors
I am responding to Mr. Chmela in regard to my original letter to Fence Post. You think I was a bit heavy and incorrect in my assessment of AIG and what the government should do to get back the bailout money.
I stand by my original idea. You believe I am wrong because I said the government should put liens on their assets to get the money back. You state that I am giving the government permission to destroy our constitution. You also stated that the government will come and kick down my door someday to take whatever they want.
Here's where we agree to disagree. The government took my hard earned money and gave it to AIG so that they would not file for bankruptcy. I blame the government for not stating in the bailout deal that the money was to be used appropriately and not given to employees for bonuses, regardless that they were already expecting them.
You said you are afraid of people who think like me and that when the government kicks down my door, you will be bricking your door shut. It won't matter. The government doesn't need to come into our homes to take anything, they just raise our taxes.
That's why the Constitution is such a great document. We can voice our opinion and vote and stage protests and whatever else we can think of so that the government knows when we are not happy with the way they are handling a particular situation. If we complain enough, the government has to appease us somehow and the AIG's of the world feel pressure to give back their bonuses because they know we the people are not going to stand for it.
