Masked heroes, space vixens:

The ninth annual Windy City Pulp and Paper Convention will bring creators, collectors and fans to the Westin Lombard Yorktown Center today through Sunday. Attractions include a dealer showroom offering vintage pulp, paperback, old-time radio, movie memorabilia and related material; a Pulp Film Festival; an art show of rare original pulp and paperback art; and an auction. This year's show features the once-infamous Spicy pulps from the Depression era, with covers depicting scantily clad damsels in distress. Admission is $35 for all three days; or $25 on Friday, $25 on Saturday and $15 on Sunday. Free for ages 13 and younger with a parent. For details, visit www.windycitypulpandpaper.com.

Community garage sale set:

Glen Ellyn Countryside Park District will hold its annual garage sale from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday, May 2, at homes throughout the district, which stretches from North Avenue to Belden and from Glen Ellyn Road to Roberta. The rain date is May 9. For details, call (630) 469-6010.

Library book sale:

Bensenville Public Library holds its annual Spring Book Sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 2, at the library, 200 S. Church Road, Bensenville. Thousands of titles are available, with hardcover books selling for $1 and paperbacks three for $1. For details, call (630) 766-4642.
