Board meeting
• On Monday, the U-46 Board of Education meets at 7 p.m. in Room 140 at the Educational Services Center, 355 E. Chicago St. in Elgin. The public is welcome to attend and provide citizen comments to the school board at the open meetings. Bartlett High
• On Thursday, the Spring Choral concert will be held at 7 p.m. in the Bartlett High School auditorium, 701 Schick Road. Seniors, age 62 and older living in the district may attend U-46 plays and concerts for free if they pick up a platinum card from Paula in the communications office. • On Friday, a Visual Arts show will be held at 7 p.m. in the auditorium.
Larkin High
• On Wednesday, band students, under the direction of Pat Henning, will perform their spring concert at 7:30 p.m. in the Larkin High School auditorium, 1475 Larkin Ave., Elgin. Tickets are available on the evening of the show at a cost of $2 per adult, $1 per student or senior citizen, and $6 per family. Seniors 62 and older living in the district may attend U-46 plays and concerts for free if they pick up a platinum card from Paula in the communications office. • On Thursday, the auditorium will be filled with music, art, and dance as the Visual and Performing Arts Academy presents their "Prism" concert. This is a wonderful opportunity as all of the various segments of the Academy will perform. Music performed by the band, orchestra, and choral groups, along with dance and drama presentations, will highlight the students work. Art work created by the Visual Arts students will fill the display cases. Senior students in the Academy will also be recognized. The program begins at 7 p.m. in the auditorium.
• On Saturday, the annual Connie-a-Thon will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the back parking lot of the school. This event is to bring together students, teachers and community to raise funds for a Larkin individual with outstanding medical expenses. Many corporations have donated money for this event. Live music, food, kids' games, bingo tournaments, raffles, silent auction, car wash, etc. will be featured.
South Elgin High
• On Wednesday, the third annual art exhibit will have an open house reception from 5 to 7 p.m. in the auditorium, 760 E. Main St.
• On Thursday, the Spring Choral Concert will be presented at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. It is also Senior Recognition Night, honoring the year's achievements and the graduating seniors. • On Wednesday and Thursday, select students will present the spring musical "School House Rock Live Jr." at 7 p.m. in the learning center, 949 Van St., Elgin. Admission is $5 per adult and $3 per student or senior citizen. The play is based on the popular Saturday morning cartoons that so many kids have grown up with. Ellis
• On Wednesday and Thursday, seventh-grade students will present a science fair from 3:30 to 6 p.m. in the Ellis Middle School gym, 225 S. Liberty St., Elgin.
• On Friday, members of the community are invited to share job information with the students at a Career Fair from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Ellis gym.
Kenyon Woods
• On Thursday, Civil War Day will take place from 9 a.m. to noon in the Kenyon Woods Middle School library and commons, 1515 Raymond St., South Elgin. Special guest will be Thomas Jefferson, portrayed by an actor.
Larsen
• On Tuesday, the Beginner Band and Orchestra Concert will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. in the Larsen Middle School gym, 665 Dundee Ave., Elgin.
• On Friday, the eighth-grade students will celebrate the end of the year with a dance from 6 to 8 p.m.
Bartlett
• On Friday, the annual Volunteer Recognition Luncheon will be presented by the Bartlett Elementary School teaching staff in honor of parent and community volunteers.
Hawk Hollow
• On Friday, the annual Fun Fair will be held from 5:15 to 8:45 p.m. at the Hawk Hollow Elementary School, 235 Jacaranda Drive in Bartlett. Hot dogs, pizza and many other tasty treats will be available for purchase. Don't miss the new games and activities this year, including a speed pitch machine and an inflatable slide.
Hillcrest
• On Wednesday, the Spring Book Fair/Fine Arts/Literacy Night will be held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Hillcrest Elementary School, 80 N. Airlite St., Elgin. Parents and students may view student artwork and read books written by their children. At 6:30 p.m., there will be a vocabulary parade with students dressed up as various vocabulary words. The principal will be the grand marshal. There also will be drawings for prizes after the book fair.
Laurel Hill
• On Wednesday, kindergarten to second-grade students at Laurel Hill Elementary School will present a spring musical at 6:30 p.m. at Streamwood High School auditorium, 701 W. Schaumburg Road.
• On Thursday, Basketball Awards Night will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the school, 1750 Laurel St., Hanover Park. Principal Patricia Stubbs and basketball coaches welcome friends and families to celebrate a season to remember, along with the team's academic triumphs. The girl's basketball team consisting of fifth- and sixth-grade students finished first place in the district. They will be recognized by the mayor at the Hanover Park Board village board meeting on May 21.
Liberty
• On Monday, fifth- and sixth grade students will perform the musical "Rock and Roll is Here to Stay" at 6:30 p.m. in the Liberty Elementary School gym, 121 Naperville Road in Bartlett.
• On Thursday, second-grade students will visit the U-46 Planetarium to view "Secrets of the Cardboard Rocket."
Lowrie
• On Tuesday, Cinco de Mayo will be celebrated with fun, food, and entertainment from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at Lowrie Elementary School, 264 Oak St., Elgin. Admission is $1 per person. Children under 5 years of age are free.
Otter Creek
• On Monday, fifth- and sixth-grade band students at Otter Creek Elementary School in Elgin will present a concert at 7 p.m. at Larkin High School, 1475 Larkin Ave., Elgin.
• On Thursday, a Young Authors Reception will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the multipurpose room.
Spring Trail
• On Wednesday, kindergarten to third-grade students at Spring Trail Elementary School in Carol Stream will present their Spring Sing at 7 p.m. at Bartlett High School, 701 Schick Road.
• On Thursday, the sixth-graders will display castles they have built for their families and fellow students at 8:40 a.m. in the commons.
• Also on Thursday, the PTO will sponsor a Roller Skating party from 6 to 8 p.m. at Mainstreet USA Roller Rink in Streamwood.
