Neil Young to appear on 'American Masters'
The prickly singer-songwriter-rocker Neil Young stands still long enough for the profile "Don't Be Denied," a career overview that draws on plenty of Young's own archival film footage. Although appearing as part of PBS' excellent "American Masters" series, the documentary is actually a BBC production. It airs at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 10, on WTTW Channel 11.
Broadway melodies
Neil Patrick Harris, of "How I Met Your Mother" (and never forget "Doogie Howser, M.D."), tries to establish himself as a song-and-dance man as host of this year's Tony Awards at New York City's Radio City Music Hall. The 63rd annual Broadway award ceremony figures to feature plenty of songs from this year's top productions when it airs at 7 p.m. Sunday, June 7, on CBS' WBBM Channel 2.
'Army Wives' re-enlist
Kim Delaney's "Army Wives" returns for its third season of soap-opera shenanigans transposed to a U.S. military base at 9 p.m. Sunday, June 7, on Lifetime. The 18-episode run opens with Delaney's Claudia Joy trying to deal with the AWOL disappearance of her daughter.
'Batman' before
Director Tim Burton's original take on "Batman" remains a sad victim of the Hollywood writers' strike 20 years ago. Never the most graceful storyteller, Burton slogs along with a mess of a script and gets precious little support from the laconic Michael Keaton as the title character and hammy Jack Nicholson as the Joker. Last year's "Dark Knight" update, with the late Heath Ledger, made this instantly obsolete. It's at 7 p.m. today, June 5, on WCPX Channel 38.
