Boating enforcement:

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources Conservation Police officers will be out in force this weekend looking for boaters operating under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The action is part of a coordinated national effort of stepped-up enforcement known as Operation Dry Water. According to authorities, alcohol use is one of the leading factors in fatal recreational boating accidents. In Illinois, operating under the influence (OUI) is a misdemeanor for the first offense, punishable by up to a year in jail and/or $2,500 in fines.
