Tired of heavy truck traffic

I live in Elgin off Route 25. Day in, day out, big rig haulers have made a habit of using Route 25 as their "main drag." Liberty Street in Elgin is completely residential until you make it all the way south to Bartlett.

Why do these big rig truck haulers insist on using Route 25 when Route 59 is but a few minutes away from here, as well as mostly nonresidential? These trucks are heavy and loud; they all take turns with their sudden engine braking, which shakes our old homes, and their diesel fumes reek. Route 25 also has a speed limit of 30 mph, whereas Route 59 exceeds 45 mph, has wider lanes and few driveways as well as fewer traffic lights. I am seeing the effects of these trucks on our roads, with cracks, dips and pot holes, and in our homes, with dust and residue on our siding and windows.

Why doesn't the city of Elgin instill weight limits on Route 25?
