Firefighters warn of scam:

The Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District reports that several Barrington-area residents have recently received phone calls from a group identifying itself as the Illinois Association of Disabled and Retired Firefighters. Callers state that a donation will directly benefit Barrington disabled and retired firefighters. But this solicitation is in no way connected to the Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District, and local officials stress no funds are received by retired or disabled Barrington firefighters. District officials said the Illinois attorney general's office has no record of this organization being registered with the attorney general, which is required by law. If anyone has concerns or questions about this or any fire solicitation, they may contact Fire Chief Jim Arie at (847) 304-3600.
