Cook County briefs

Attorney running for Congress:

Highland Park attorney Elliot Richardson is running for Congress as a Democrat in the 10th House District, a spokesman said Friday. Richardson is after the seat now held by U.S. Rep. Mark Kirk, who GOP sources have said is running for Senate in 2010. Richardson is among several Democratic and Republican candidates interested in the post, which represents parts of Cook and Lake counties. Other declared candidates include Democrat Michael Bond of Grayslake and Republican Patricia Bird of Mount Prospect.

Hanover Pk. wants feedback:

Hanover Park will host a meeting Monday, July 13, to give the public a chance to offer feedback that will be used as the village rewrites its comprehensive plan for the first time in more than 10 years. Those who attend will have the chance to say what kind of development and redevelopment they'd like to see in different parts of town. They'll also be given hand-held devices with which they can vote on their opinions on different types of developments that will be shown. The meeting takes place at 6 p.m. at the Poplar Creek Library Sonja Crawshaw Branch, 4300 Audrey Lane, Hanover Park. Another meeting is planned for later this summer at the Hanover Park branch of the Schaumburg Township District Library, but no date has yet been set for that.

School resource officer OK'd:

Schaumburg police and Schaumburg Township Elementary District 54 have reached agreement on a contract for a school resource officer who will rotate among the district's three junior highs in the village this school year. District 54 has agreed to pay 75 percent of the $127,246 cost of the program for the year ahead. This is up from the 50 percent share the district paid in recent years, but back to an earlier version of the cost-share still practiced with Palatine-Schaumburg High School District 211 at Schaumburg High School. Schaumburg police said they could no longer afford the junior high program unless District 54 stepped up its contribution.

Clubhouse vandalized again:

The clubhouse of the Arlington Lakes subdivision near Palatine and Schoenbeck roads was vandalized for the fourth time this year, according to a report from Arlington Heights Crime Stoppers. A window valued at $600 was broken between 8:30 p.m. Wednesday and 6 a.m. Thursday. Several chairs, tables and umbrellas were also thrown into the pool, the report said. Anyone with information about this or any serious crime can call Arlington Heights Crime Stoppers, (847) 590-7867. Callers are guaranteed anonymity and may qualify for a cash reward of up to $1,000.
