Schaumburg Rotary says help send a kid to a Flyers game

The Schaumburg A.M. Rotary Club wants to change one of the famed sayings of America's pastime, from "Take me out to the ballgame" to "Send a kid to the ballgame," with its first Rotary Night July 30 at the Schaumburg Flyers game.

The club is selling tickets to the 7:05 p.m. game against the Fargo Redhawks on www.rotaryfundraiser.org, until July 29 and donating all funds to local charities. The club will also use donations to buy tickets for children and families in need.

The Alfred Campanelli YMCA, the Children's Home and Aid Schaumburg Family Center, the Kenneth Young Center and Clearbrook, a group that provides services for people with disabilities, will all receive donated tickets and a portion of the funds raised from Rotary Night.

"A lot of these groups told us that over the last couple years, donations have been way down," said Rotary member Jim McKenzie. "These groups can't help any more and we're trying to pick up some of the slack, not only with bringing kids who wouldn't otherwise be able to come to the game, but also with 100 percent of the funds going to the same organizations."

People can buy lawn seats for $5 and reserved seats for $10. Some companies are using the game as their corporate event for the summer, while other people are making anonymous donations to give needy families a night of fun, McKenzie said.

"The Rotary is people volunteering and not wanting anything in return," McKenzie said. "Be other centered and try to help out someone in the neighborhood."
