Injured pedestrian upgraded:

Nicholas Pieri, the 29-year-old Palatine man hit by a Palatine police squad car early Saturday, has been upgraded from critical to serious condition, a spokeswoman for Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge said Thursday. The Buffalo Grove Police Department is conducting part of the investigation, which Police Cmdr. Steve Husak hopes to turn over to Palatine police within a few days. He said Buffalo Grove authorities investigated the accident scene, while Palatine authorities focused on interviewing the police officer and victim.

Weekend Hoffman closures:

Motorists driving through Hoffman Estates Saturday, July 25, and Sunday, July 26, should expect morning and afternoon road closures because of the Alexian Brothers Fitness For America Sports Festival. Starting at 7:45 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, some roads will be closed for the runners, cyclists and skaters. They are Lakewood Boulevard to east of the entrance to Jersey's, as well as Huntington Boulevard between Lakewood and Central Road. Central from Ela Road to east of Claire's will also be closed.

Hanover Park seeks feedback:

Hanover Park will host a meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 29, to seek public input to be used as the village rewrites its comprehensive plan for the first time in more than 10 years. People will have the chance to say what kind of development and redevelopment they'd like to see in different parts of town. They'll also be given hand-held devices with which they can vote on their opinions on different types of developments that will be shown. The meeting is at the Hanover Park branch of the Schaumburg Township District Library, 1266 Irving Park Road.

Foreclosed home auction:

Hundreds of home repossessed in foreclosures will be auctioned off starting at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont. Many of the homes, located throughout the Chicago area, are expected to sell for half or less than half of their previous highest value. Further details are at Auction.com.

Palatine car show Sunday:

More than 300 vehicles will be displayed at the first Arlington Toyota-Scion Car Show from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, July 26, on the top three floors of the Gateway Center parking deck at Smith and Colfax streets in Palatine. Current entries range from a Geo Prism to a $375,000 Lamborghini. The car show will feature a dynamometer, which measures horsepower. Anyone wishing to display a car can register from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday for $10. All proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society. Admission is free for viewers. Arlington Toyota-Scion will move from Arlington Heights to a new facility at Rand and Hicks roads in Palatine later this year.

Library hosts fun fair:

All ages are invited to the "Make a Difference Fun Fair" from 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday, July 25, at the Schaumburg Township District Library, 130 S. Roselle Road, Schaumburg. Carnival games will be set up outdoors in front of the main entrance. Members of the library's Teen Corps will run the games and assist small children. Tickets to participate will be given to patrons who bring a canned food or money donation; all proceeds go to the Schaumburg Township Food Pantry.
