'Coach Fed' wake, funeral set:

A wake for Greg "Fed" Fedyski will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Friday, July 31, at Matz Funeral Home, 410 E. Rand Road in Mount Prospect, according to his family. Fedyski's funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday at St. James Catholic Church, 820 N. Arlington Heights Road. Fedyski, 60, of Arlington Heights, a coach and role model of Olympic runner Jorge Torres and a longtime track coach in the Northwest suburbs, died last week in a Nebraska hospital. He was driving home from Colorado with Jorge Torres' mother, Maria, when the car veered off the roadway, struck a post and rolled twice. The two had been in Colorado for Jorge Torres' wedding and doctors believe Fedyski suffered a stroke either before or after the accident that caused his death. Fedyski coached Jorge Torres at MacArthur Middle School and at Fedyski's private Prospect Heights Running Club. The brothers credited Fedyski with getting them into the sport.
