Lake Villa Library sets used book sale:

The Friends of the Lake Villa District Library hosts the annual used book sale Aug. 13 to 15 at the library, 1001 E. Grand Ave. Preview Night for current Friends of the Lake Villa District Library members is 4 to 8 p.m. on Aug. 13. The sale will open to the public Aug. 14, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. On Aug. 15, there will be a $5 per grocery paper bag sale from 9 a.m. to noon, and a $1 per plastic bag sale from noon to 4 p.m.

Animal photography contest:

A photo contest to accompany the "Animal Architects" exhibition has been announced by the Lake County Forest Preserve District. The contest theme is animal architects and is open to all ages, with divisions for youths and adults. Entries will be accepted until Aug. 31. Photographs must be shot in Lake County and feature a structure built by a native animal. Photographs of animals with the structures they build, or animals in the process of building are also accepted. Examples include spiderwebs, beaver lodges and bird nests. Entries may only be submitted online via the contest's Flickr photo pool at www.flickr.com/groups/animalarchitects. Fundraisers scheduled:

The Libertyville High School cheerleaders will host three fundraisers this month and in September. Car washes are scheduled for today and Sept. 12 at Ace Hardware, 155 Peterson Road, Libertyville. They'll run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day. And, a corn roast is set for Aug. 23, at Sunset Foods, 1451 Peterson Road, Libertyville. Corn will cost $1 each. Proceeds will help the team pay for choreography for the 2009-10 season.
