Elk Grove woman dies after crash

Funeral services for an Elk Grove Village woman, who died after a traffic accident Saturday on I-290 near Itasca, will be Thursday in Park Ridge.

Sarah Behan, 70, died Saturday afternoon at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, where she was airlifted with severe leg injuries, officials said.

Behan was eastbound on I-290 about 10:20 a.m. Saturday when her car ran into the back of a truck that was stopped in traffic, Sgt. Brent Hop with District 2 Illinois State Police said Monday. The left front corner of Behan's Chevrolet Blazer struck the right rear of the truck, he said.

Behan was trapped inside her car and was freed from the wreckage by members of the Itasca Fire Department. The driver and a passenger in the truck didn't seek medical treatment and no tickets have been issued. The accident still is under investigation, Hop said.

The wake for Behan, a native of Tourmakeady, County Mayo, Ireland, and a resident of Elk Grove Village and Sterling Village, Fla., will be from 3-8 p.m. Wednesday at Gibbons Funeral Home, 134 S. York Road, Elmhurst. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Mary Seat of Wisdom Catholic Church, Park Ridge.
