MCC official selected to manage U-46's finances, operations

A McHenry County College official will soon be overseeing the finances and operations of the state's second largest school district.

Ronald Ally, currently the Treasurer and Vice President for Administrative Services at McHenry County College in Crystal Lake, will begin working as Elgin Area School District U-46's Chief Financial and Operations Officer Aug. 17.

Ally will replace two key administrators at U-46.

John Prince, the district's Chief Financial Officer since 2004, left for Plainfield Community Consolidated School District 202 at the end of June, at the same time Chief Operating Officer Jeff King departed for Lake Zurich District 95.

In a news release announcing the move, Superintendent Jose Torres said Ally was selected after being interviewed by members of the local business community, a representative of the U-46 Citizens' Advisory Council, and school board.

Ally, who has worked at MCC since 2000, is credited with increasing the college's general fund reserves, restructuring its long-term debt, and preparing its first comprehensive annual financial report.

Before his tenure in Crystal Lake, Ally served as Director of Financial Affairs and Controller at the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn.

In his spare time, Ally is consultant for the Higher Learning Commission and a member of the Illinois Community College Board Finance Advisory Committee. He also serves on the National Association of College and University Business Officials, and the Illinois Association of School Business Officials.

Ally, a Larkin High School graduate, has a bachelor's degree from Elmhurst College, and master's and doctorate degrees from Northern Illinois University.

Torres joked at Monday's school board meeting that the Larkin degree was part of the screening process, helping Ally to net the position.
