$100 ticket is a shortsighted gain

The red light camera on southbound Route 31 and Boncosky Road must be a wonderful moneymaker for the village of West Dundee. I know of several people who have received $100 tickets after making a right hand turn at this intersection, including my son who was returning home after dinner with friends in West Dundee.

When he received his ticket in the mail a few days after the violation showing several pictures, he followed up on their Web site to view the entire video of his right turn.

No doubt about it, he did not come to a complete 1-2-stop. Nor did he take the turn on two wheels.

This intersection is a T-intersection. Since southbound traffic turning right, east, has no other traffic considerations, why is there no green arrow here? Where is the safety concern? My son, who is a college student with a part-time job, paid his ticket and decided that since the village of West Dundee wants to trap motorists and pick their pockets, he and his friends will take their traffic and their business elsewhere. Our whole family feels the same way. That $100 is the last penny any business in the village of West Dundee will ever see from us.
