Streamwood Kiwanis collect class supplies

The Kiwanis Club of Streamwood is conducting a school supply drive throughout August. Supplies will be distributed to children in Hanover Township. Drop off locations are: Park Place, 550 S. Park Blvd., Streamwood; Streamwood Village Hall, 301 Irving Park Road; Poplar Creek Library, 1405 S. Park, Streamwood; Citibank, 800 S. Barrington Road, Streamwood; Gymkhana Gymnastics, 1700 Tower Road, Hanover Park; and First Midwest Bank, 2601 W. Schaumburg Road, Schaumburg. Call Terri, (847) 466-7365.

Hoffman firefighters host citizen academy

Does the thought of climbing a 100-foot ladder, using the "Jaws of Life" to cut through a car or leading a fire company into a burning building excite you? If so, the Hoffman Estates Fire Department invites you to its Citizens Fire Academy, where residents experience the inner workings of their fire department.

Students also will learn about home fire safety, CPR and the history of the Hoffman Estates Fire Department.

Classes will meet on Tuesdays from 6:30-9:30 p.m. at various fire stations. The academy runs Aug. 25-November. Contact Tony Butler at (847) 882-9100, ecx. 6498 or tony.butler@hoffmanestates.org.

'Feet Fest' 3K family fun run and walk

Celebrate Street Fest in Palatine by participating in the sixth annual Palatine Park District Feet Fest! Download forms at www.palatineparks.org or pick them up at the Community Center, 250 E. Wood Street or Birchwood Recreation Center, 435 W. Illinois Ave.

A T-shirt and goody bag will be given to all preregistered participants.

Race is 9:30 a.m. Aug. 30, at Towne Square, Smith and Slade streets, Palatine. Race day registration 8:30-9:15 a.m. Fee: $10 prerace; $15 race day for residents (add $5 for non-residents).

Family Fee: If two family members pay full fee, all remaining members pay $5 each for pre-race registration only. Pre-race registration deadline is Aug. 22.

Library can help with career change

Anyone looking for a job or considering a career change can visit the new Job and Career Center at the Schaumburg Township District Library, 130 S. Roselle Road, Schaumburg.

Located on the second floor of the central library, adjacent to the Reference Desk, the center has a computer reserved just for job seekers, with links to job search sites and other computer-related resources, including DVDs.

A plethora of career and salary data, company information and details on various types of jobs is available in the books, guides and other materials located within the Center.
