Library hauls out big rigs for 35th birthday party

Officials are celebrating the Vernon Area Library's 35th birthday in a big way. Shannon Galton, the library's community activities coordinator, gives us a preview of the event.

Q. What's the highlight of the event?

A. A large presentation of trucks will be on display, including a monster truck, semi-truck, fire truck, street sweeper, farm tractor, garbage truck, police car, end loader, dump truck and snow plow. Children will be able to learn the ins and outs of all featured trucks and, of course, get the chance to climb and sit in them!

There will also be a 70s band, Triple Threat Band, playing at 12:30 p.m.

Q. What kind of activities will appeal to kids and families?

A. A special visit from Bob the Builder! Plus, a children's booth offers raffles, tattoos, stickers, decorate-your-hat craft and more!

Q. What kinds of food and beverages will be for sale?

A. There will be fruit popsicles, popcorn, soda and juice, all FREE of charge, courtesy of your library.

Q. Tell us about the volunteers and organizers who pull this together.

A. All of our community events are planned through myself, Shannon Galton, and our youth programmer, Eileen Glazik. A fantastic team of support services staff offers their time to help during the event.

Q. Is there anything else we should know?

A. Fun truck show, free food, free rock music, free children's crafts - what could be better!?
