Perfect ACT score:

For the fourth consecutive year, a Warren Township High School student has a perfect ACT college entrance exam score. Yuanxuan Xia nailed a 36 on the ACT, officials at Gurnee-based Warren District 121 announced. The ACT tests students in English, reading, mathematics and science, with possible scores ranging from 1 to 36. The average composite score for the national high school graduating class of 2008 was 21.1. Xia was one of 47 Illinois students to gain a perfect score last spring. Warren officials said Xia, a senior, is taking six advanced placement classes this semester.

Macy's Museum Adventure:

Lake Villa District Library card holders can receive a Macy's Museum Adventure Pass for free admission, free parking or a special discount at 17 exciting museums and cultural institutions including Brookfield Zoo, Cantigny Park, Chicago Botanic Garden, Cuneo Museum and Gardens, Kohl Children's Museum and Lake County Discovery Museum. Passes are good for one visit in a one-week period for the museum of your choice. They are available on a first-come, first-served basis. One Museum Adventure Pass may be checked out per person, per loan period. Visit museumadventure.org for a full listing of participating institutions and for checkout guidelines. Warren student paper lauded:

Warren Township High School District 121's student newspaper has received a high rating from a national organization. Gurnee-based Warren's Scratch Paper captured a critique of First Class by the National Scholastic Press Association. The school also announced Monday the Scratch Paper student staff for the 2008-09 academic year received honorable mention marks in three categories: content and coverage; layout and design; and leadership. The critique is a written evaluation of work submitted by a publication to the nonprofit membership organization for high schools and other secondary school publications. Journalists, experienced media advisers and other industry professionals make up the association's board of directors. Critiques have an honor rating ranging from Third Class to All-American.

New toilets:

New toilets are coming this fall to Grant Woods Forest Preserve near Lake Villa, Lake Carina Forest Preserve in Gurnee, Raven Glen Forest Preserve in Antioch and the Des Plaines River Trail near Gurnee. Construction is under way and the new facilities should be available by late fall. Solar/wind-powered ventilation fans will provide improved airflow using "green" technology. Alternative roofing and septic tank materials with longer life spans and lower installation and maintenance costs will save additional resources, according to the Lake County Forest Preserve District.
