Daffodil Day in Lindenhurst

The village of Lindenhurst's Environmental Activity and Education Commission will host its first Daffodil Day from 9:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 26 at village hall, 2301 E. Sand Lake Road. Daffodil bulbs will be available for $5 a dozen. For details call (847) 356-8552.

Parent seminar set

Mundelein High School will hold a four-part seminar aimed at increasing the involvement of Hispanic parents in their children's academic careers. BookArt contest for kids

The Lake Villa District Library invites area children to enter its BookArt Annual Contest for Kids. The Youth Services Department is looking for children ages 5 through 12 to create an original collage that celebrates books and reading. The contest will be judged by local art teachers. Winners will be chosen in three age categories, as well as an overall Best in Show winner. Entry forms are available now at the Youth Services Reference Desk. Submissions will be taken Oct. 1-31. Gang, drug and "sexting" forum

The Lake County Juvenile Officer's Association, the Lake County Juvenile Justice Council, the Lake County Regional Office of Education and the College of Lake County are sponsoring a seminar to discuss gang activity, drug use and "sexting" among youths from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 30. The seminar, at the College of Lake County's Grayslake campus, is geared toward educators, school administrators, counselors, security and resource officers, and law enforcement officials. Speakers include Lake County State's Attorney Mike Waller and other legal, law enforcement and education professionals. The fee is $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Call (847) 377-7831.

Family fishing derby

The Lake County Forest Preserves' Family Fishing Derby is from 8 to 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 27, at the North Bay pavilion at Independence Grove Forest Preserve near Libertyville. The catch-and-release event for all ages is limited to the first 100 anglers. Cost is $3 per person. Register in advance online at www.LCFPD.org, or at (847) 968-3321 or on-site the morning of the event beginning at 7:30 a.m. Participants are encouraged to bring their own equipment. Those under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. A fishing license is required and can be purchased on site or at many sporting goods stores or at www.dnr.state.il.us. Learn about Alzheimer's

The Greater Illinois Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association and Americare HomeHealth Services will host a two-part seminar on Making Sense of Memory Loss. The first part will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 7, from 6 to 8 p.m. and the second from 6 to 8 p.m. on Nov. 4. Both seminars will take place the Fox Lake Lakefront Park Community Center, 71 Nippersink Blvd. The seminars will feature a discussion lead by Daniel Kuhn, director of the Professional Training Institute for the Greater Illinois Chaprter of the Alzheimer's Association.
