Plenty happening for all ages at the Batavia Public Library

For children

Book Worms: Themed story and craft time for students in kindergarten and first and second grades will be at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22. Registration is required.

Book Gems: Book discussion and activities for students in second and third grades at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept 15. Registration required. Reserve a copy of "Andy Shane" and the "Very Bossy Dolores Starbuckle" by Jennifer Richard Jacobson when registering.

Lap Sit Storytime: Children ages 2 and 3 and their caregivers are invited for stories, songs and rhymes at 10 a.m. Mondays, Sept. 14 to Nov. 2; and Tuesdays, Sept. 15 to Nov. 3. Storytimes are approximately 20 minutes long. Registration is required.

Family Storytime: Families with children 7 years old and younger are invited at 7 p.m. Mondays, Sept. 14 to Nov. 2. No registration is required.

Baby Storytime, Pre-Walkers: Infants who are not yet walking and their caregivers will enjoy this interactive storytime, which includes songs, nursery rhymes, lap games, and book-sharing at 11 a.m. Tuesdays, Sept. 15 to Nov. 3. Space is limited. Registration is required.

ABC Storytime: Children ages 3 to 6 without a caregiver will enjoy activities, books and a craft at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Wednesdays, Sept. 16 to Nov. 4; 10 a.m. Thursdays, Sept. 17 to Nov. 5. Registration is required.

Baby Storytime-Walkers: Infants through 23 months who are walking and their caregivers are invited for songs, nursery rhymes, finger plays, games and book-sharing at 11 a.m. Fridays, Sept. 18 to Nov. 6. Space is limited. Registration is required.

Babies & Tots Drop-In Storytime: Babies and tots through 35 months of age and their caregivers are invited for songs, rhymes and stories at 10 a.m. Fridays, Sept. 18 to Nov. 6. No registration is required.

Preschool Drop-In Storytime: Children ages 3 to 6 and their younger siblings are invited at 1 p.m. Fridays, Sept. 18 to Nov. 6. An adult must accompany children age 4 and younger. No registration is required.

Drop-In Craft: Children of all ages are invited to make a fall paper wreath from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19. Children younger than 6 must be accompanied by an adult.

Family Book Chat: Students and a parent or another adult are invited to discuss "Fair Weather" by Richard Peck and enjoy related activities at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24. Registration is required. Reserve a copy of the book when registering.

Web Kidz: Students ages 6 to 8 will visit kid-friendly Internet sites for entertainment and education at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 26. Registration and signed parental permission are required.

Book Character Visit: Barnes & Noble Booksellers bring Spot to the Library for stories and activities at 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 28. Bring a camera. No registration is required.

For adults and teens

The Batavia Public Library will offer the following book discussion and free programs for adults and teens during September.

Library Card Sign-Up Month: The library is encouraging all library district residents who do not have a library card to register for a card and to learn what the library has to offer. Those registering for a first-time library card during September will receive a small welcome gift from the library. Current library patrons can enter a free weekly drawing for a prize. New cardholders: Bring a photo ID and proof of residency such as a driver's license, utility bill, lease or tax bill. Anime Club: The Anime Club will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30. Teens ages 13 and older who are interested in anime, a style of animation that originated in Japan, and manga, a style of comics, are invited to attend. Every month club members preview a new anime movie. Registration is not required. For more information, call Lee Blakley, (630) 879-4777.

Lyric Opera Lecture: The Tri-City Libraries Lyric Opera Lecture Series kicks off at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, at Batavia Public Library. Hear the story of Tosca, learn about its composer, Giacomo Puccini, and listen to highlights from the opera. The presenter is a member of the Lyric Opera Lecture Corps.

Great Decisions: The Great Decisions discussion group will meet to discuss "The United States and Rising Powers" at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16. After the Cold War, the United States emerged as the world's predominant power. However, in the 21st century some rapidly developing countries have become increasingly influential. Who are the rising powers and will their emergence change the global balance of power? Great Decisions is presented by the Tri-City Libraries Program Guild and is based on a program developed by the Foreign Policy Association.

Sell on eBay: "eBay Selling 101" will be presented at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 28. Learn how to make money selling stuff on eBay from eBay University instructor Jack Waddick. Waddick will offer tips on successful eBay selling. The session includes real-time demonstrations and a Q & A session.

Homebound Delivery Service: It offers home delivery service to library cardholders who are homebound due to illness or infirmity. Books and other library materials are delivered to the Holmstad, Riverrain and Heritage Woods senior living complexes, by the library's home delivery assistant every two weeks. Deliveries to private residences are determined on an individual basis. There is no charge for this service. For more information or to request this service, call (630) 879-1393, ext. 340.
