Book sale:

The Friends of the Fremont Public Library group will hold a used book sale on Oct. 10 at the library, 1170 N. Midlothian Road. It will run from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For more information, call (847) 918-3225.

59th District office to reopen:

The constituent services office for the 59th state legislative district will reopen Sept. 23. Newly seated state Rep. Carol Sente, who was appointed Saturday to fill a vacancy created when Kathy Ryg resigned, and staff will be available to talk with constituents from 5 to 7 p.m. at the office, 50 Lakeview Parkway, Suite 114, Vernon Hills. Regular office hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. the first Saturday of the each month. The district includes eastern Lake County and a portion of northern Cook County. Call (847) 680-5909.

CN agrees with Hawthorn Woods:

A voluntary agreement between the Canadian National Railway Co. and Hawthorn Woods announced Tuesday will address issues with CN's acquisition of the principal lines of the former Elgin, Joliet and Eastern Railway Co. The sale was completed Jan. 31. CN runs trains on EJ&E tracks. According to a release, CN will pay for a number of initiatives including maintenance of an existing quiet zone, noise mitigation, emergency response training, pedestrian crossing protection and traffic signals. CN now has agreements with 18 of 33 towns along the EJ&E in Illinois and Indiana. According to the release, Hawthorn Woods Mayor Joe Mancino said the village board concluded it was in the best interest to work on mitigation immediately. CN said it expects full integration with EJ&E networks within three years.
