Batavia library offers activities in October

The youth services department at Batavia Public Library, 10 S. Batavia Ave., will conduct these events in October. Priority is given to Batavia Public Library cardholders for all programs requiring registration. For more information or to register, call (630) 879-4775.

Bookmark Contest: Batavia students in first through fifth grades are invited to enter the Library's bookmark contest during October. Winners will be selected from each grade level and will receive a prize. Winning bookmark designs will be featured at the youth services desk during the month of November. Entry blanks will be available at the youth services desk. All entries must be turned in by Oct. 31.

Babies & Tots Drop-In Storytime: Babies and tots though 35 months old and their caregivers are invited for songs, rhymes, and stories from 10 a.m. Fridays, through Oct. 30. No registration is required.

Preschool Drop-In Storytime: Children ages 3 to 6 and their younger siblings are invited from 1 p.m. Fridays, through Oct. 30. An adult must accompany children younger than 4 years old. No registration is required.

Lap Sit Storytime: Children ages 2 and 3 and their caregivers are invited for stories, songs and rhymes from 10 a.m. Mondays, Oct. 5-26; and Tuesdays, Oct. 6-27. Storytimes are approximately 20 minutes long. Registration is required.

Family Storytime: Families with children ages 7 and younger are invited for stories and activities from 7 p.m. Mondays, Oct. 5-26. No registration is required.

Baby Storytime, Pre-Walkers: Infants who are not yet walking and their caregivers will enjoy this interactive storytime which includes songs, nursery rhymes, lap games, and book-sharing from 11 a.m. Tuesdays, Oct. 6-27. Space is limited. Registration is required.

Book Character Visit: Barnes & Noble Booksellers will bring Corduroy to the library for stories and activities at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct 9. Bring a camera. No registration is required.

Chess Knight: Children in fourth grade and older are invited to play chess with other students and/or adults at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9. Bring a chess set or use one of the library's. No registration is required.

Drop-In Craft: Children of all ages are invited to make a toilet paper roll pumpkin from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10. Bring a full roll of TP. Children younger than 6 years must be accompanied by an adult.

Movie at the Library: The movie will be shown at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 12. Call the library for movie title, rating, and length.

Book Worms: Themed story and craft time for students in kindergarten and first and second grades at 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Oct. 13 and 27. Registration is required.

Book Beat: Students in fourth through eighth grades are invited for discussion and activities related to "All the Lovely Bad Ones: A Ghost Story" by Mary Downing Hahn at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15. Registration is required; reserve a copy of the book when registering.

The Yo-Yo Man: Yo-yo champion Barry North will demonstrate tricks like "walk the dog," "rock the baby" and more at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 18. Learn to perfect classic yo-yo moves. Family registration is requested.

Book Gems: Students in second and third grades are invited to discuss "Franny K. Stein Mad Scientist: The Fran That Time Forgot" by Jim Benton and for activities related to the book at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20. Registration is required; reserve a copy of the book when registering.

BatFest Stories and Parade: Come to the Library Reading Garden - weather permitting; otherwise the library meeting room - for fall stories and songs at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24. Then join the Batavia Mothers' Club Costume Parade to the Riverwalk for BatFest fun. Parents must accompany children. No registration is required.
