Algonquin man gets bounced off 'Biggest Loser'

Algonquin's Julio Gomez will not be "The Biggest Loser" or $250,000 richer.

Gomez, 40, was voted off the show, after losing one of the lowest percentages of body fat on Tuesday night's episode put him in danger of elimination - he dropped 4 pounds, his smallest number yet.

"I have a lot of people that love me at home," Gomez said after the purple team cast the deciding vote against him. "And there is no way they're going to let me quit."

This week, the kitchen was closed, forcing contestants to order their food from various eateries each day.

Although the trainers told them how to order healthy, contestants said it still posed a unique challenge when it came to weight loss because the food wasn't always prepared the way they'd asked.

Gomez, who started the show weighing 407 pounds and couldn't explain how he got that big, lost a total of 43 pounds during his four-week stint.

Gomez now calls the gym his second home and has shed another 65 pounds since returning home and weighs 299 pounds, according to the show.

"My love for food is not gone," Gomez said from his Algonquin digs. "I'm just changing the way I'm doing it."

Those changes include selecting fresher foods with fewer preservatives, making things from scratch and becoming a regular fixture at Fitness 19 in Algonquin.

And with that, the man who once said cheeseburgers were his drug of choice, is well on his way to reaching his goal of losing 200 pounds in time for the show's live December finale.

If he succeeds, he would literally become half the man he used to be.
