Legislators host coffees:

Two local legislators will host coffees for constituents this week. State Rep. Carol Sente will be available from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, at the Liberty Restaurant, 419 S. Milwaukee Ave., Libertyville. The Vernon Hills Democrat plans to host regular coffee shop stops around the district. Call (847) 680-5909. On Friday, state Sen. Michael Bond will be available to constituents from 8 to 10 a.m. at the Whistle Stop Cafe, 15 E. Grand Ave., Grayslake. The Grayslake Democrat will be available to discuss his recent initiatives, such as fairness and transparency in the property tax assessment process and improving Lake County roads. Parent, student night:

OMNI Youth Services and Reality Theater will present a show about how technology is affecting the lives of young people on Thursday, Oct. 22, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Antioch Upper Grade School, 800 Highview Drive in Antioch. From texting and instant messaging to cyberbullying and cyberstalking, the show will explore the impact the Internet and social media have on substance use, bullying, personal safety and body image. Child care will be provided for younger children. Boo Bash fundraiser:

In hopes of raising $15,000 to purchase an allergy sniffing dog for their daughter Kate, the Slobodian family of Lindenhurst is planning a Boo Bash fundraising party from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, at the Hastings Lake YMCA, 1995 Grass Lake Road, Lake Villa. Music, games, raffles, face-painting and more are planned. The 3-year-old girl suffers from life-threatening allergies and has to be monitored constantly. But now, a Colorado-based organization is training dogs to sniff out potentially dangerous substances. The Slobodians hope to purchase one of the service dogs in the coming months.
