Chicago Democrat Doyle running for treasurer

Chicago Democrat Mark Doyle has announced his candidacy for state treasurer.

Doyle said Monday he would bring to the office unique skills gained through years in the public and private sectors.

The 52-year-old businessman has worked for President Bill Clinton and Vice President Joe Biden. He's also the owner of a forensic accounting firm and a business consulting company.

The treasurer's job will be open because first-term incumbent Alexi Giannoulias is giving up the post to run for President Barack Obama's old U.S. Senate seat.

Doyle faces Democrats Justin Oberman and Robin Kelly in the February primary. Oberman is the son of former Chicago Alderman Marty Oberman.

Kelly is Giannoulias' chief of staff and a former state representative.
