Kane, Hawks look to keep Luongo busy in Game 6

Patrick Kane has 2 goals and 4 assists in the first five games of the series with the Vancouver Canucks, but they have been a quiet 6 points.

Kane had only 1 shot on goal in almost 23 minutes of ice time in the Blackhawks' 4-1 loss Sunday.

"I think I've had chances," Kane said Monday. "I just have to bury them and bear down when I do get them.

"(Sunday) night was kind of a weird game where you have the puck a lot but nothing is really coming of the time you did have the puck."

Hawks coach Joel Quenneville thought some of his forwards were looking to make pretty plays instead of taking shots and putting as many pucks as possible at Canucks goalie Roberto Luongo.

Several Hawks were especially guilty of that, including Kane, Tomas Kopecky and Kris Versteeg.

"I think when I do get the puck and those opportunities to make better plays, I have to take as many shots as possible," Kane said. "I know I had shots where I missed the net and different plays when maybe you're passing up shots."

The Hawks got away from the root of their game plan, which is get pucks to the net and flood the crease area around Luongo with traffic.

"He played pretty good, but we know we've had success on him in the series," Kane said. "I think we know that recipe, to get traffic and try to not let him see the puck."

Quenneville is not putting the focus solely on Kane to step up in Game 6 Tuesday night at GM Place.

"I think he was one of many guys who - we didn't shoot enough," Quenneville said. "We were looking for maybe a better play. We need more pucks and more traffic instead of what I call one-more-plays, which leads to maybe an easier goal.

"I think if we just simplify things in the offensive zone and get more direct plays to the net it will reinforce what we want to do."

Kane thought the Canucks played a more simple game on the road Sunday than in their 2 losses in Vancouver.

"They played a little different," Kane said. "They kind of sat back and waited for us to make mistakes.

"The biggest thing was they scored a minute into the game and got themselves some life, then sat back and waited for us to either make turnovers or dump it in and not get the puck back.

"If they play like that, we kind of have to play patient like we did against Nashville."

Can the Canucks play that way at home in front of their raucous fans instead of trying to put on a show?

"Sometimes at home you want to get the crowd into it and play an exciting game for the crowd," Kane said. "Hopefully that's what they do because it kind of makes things better for us."
