Survey: most Americans are behind in retirement

OMAHA, Neb. -- A new survey suggests that most Americans think they are behind where they should be in saving for retirement.

About 57 percent of the adults who responded to the survey said they were either a little behind or far behind in preparing for retirement.

TD Ameritrade retirement planning director Diane Young says the survey shows many people still have a hard time saving for the future. Young says sticking to a savings plan is important even if only a small amount is saved.

Infogroup conducted the phone survey of 1,058 adults in February for TD Ameritrade. The margin of error is plus or minus 3 percentage points.
