High-end Samsung 3D TV offers touchscreen remote
As the 3-D rage continues, Glenview-based Abt and other stores have snagged the latest Samsung Series 9, a 3-D, ultra-slim television with a touch-screen remote that streams your TV shows.
"This is certainly for the early adapters and the techie," said store President Jon Abt. "But it's certainly not for the squeamish."
So what's so squeamish about buying the 3-D set? The price.
The 46-inch version is $5,399 (www.abt.com/product/45247/Samsung-UN46C9000.html) and the 55-inch version is $6,299 (www.abt.com/product/45247/Samsung-UN46C9000.html).
Plus, the 3-D television requires special glasses, sold separately.
Still, there will be those who've got to have this. The screen is ultra slim at 0.3 inches wide and made of titanium. The touch-screen remote allows you to carry your TV programs as far as 75 feet away. So when you answer the door for the pizza delivery guy, you won't miss a scene.
"What makes this so special? It's the thinness, the look and the design," Abt said.
And the Abt store even held a party in its honor last week. About 500 subscribers to its e-newsletter attended just to see and try the new Samsung.
Sure, there are other touch-screen remotes on the market, but how many allow you to stream television programming and do other things? said Stuart Silloway, Samsung's national sales training manager.
"It also has direct access to other TV features, like Internet content, Netflix, Blockbuster and others," Silloway said.
The remote's qwerty keyboard allows you to type in what you need. It connects to your wireless network to provide remote control anywhere. So you can change the TV's settings or anything else from around your network, Silloway said.
