HAVI Logistics closes Bloomingdale operations, lays off 249 workers

HAVI Logistics North America LLC, which had delivered food and nonfood products for Starbucks, Chipotle and Quizno's, plans to close its Bloomingdale operations Tuesday and eliminate 249 jobs.

HAVI Logistics North America, formerly known as HFS North America, became a part of HAVI in 2005. Earlier this year, the name was changed to HAVI and is part of an international corporation with operations in 40 countries, according to the company website.

Workers were notified in May and the layoff notices were provided to the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity.

Further details were unavailable Monday. Company spokesmen were not immediately available for comment.

The Portland, Ore., Business Journal reported last month that HAVI closed its Portland office and laid off about 60 workers after losing its contract with Starbucks, a deal it had for about five years to deliver food products to selected stores. Starbucks reportedly awarded the work to another company.
