Carol Stream house hit by lightning

A fire that might have been caused by a lightning strike resulted in estimated damages of $30,000 to a Carol Stream home Wednesday morning.

Firefighters received a call at 9:41 a.m. from a neighbor who said the house was struck by lightning and that there were flames on the roof.

Upon arrival, firefighters saw smoke coming from the second floor. After entering the home, they found that the flames were isolated to within the walls of a bedroom in the northwest corner of the home.

Firefighters extinguished the flames quickly and fire damage was kept to the northwest bedroom, officials said. However, some smoke and water damage did affect the lower level of the home.

Nobody was injured in the blaze as the homeowners were not home at the time. Carol Stream was assisted in the fire by Glenside, Bloomingdale and Hanover Park fire districts and Wheaton Fire Department.
